Value of white

Continuing on with value studies. Painting two different paintings this morning. Several frustrations as painting white objects is a challenge because value it very pronounced in the variations of white (esp. when only using one color).

In my next phase of learning, I am going to take a technique I learned from painter John MacDonald. In his method, you would complete a value under painting using only 1 color (as below). Then wait for the underpainting to dry (2 to 3 days). After it is dry, you can begin to mix corresponding value paints on top of the under painting. Similar to using the gray value finder.

Color used: Burnt Umber & OMS medium
